“We want every customer who buys components from us to have a good feeling. Our goal is responsible products that are created without wage dumping and child labor under Western working conditions,” says proroll managing director Stefan Fornahl; “we are proud that we have achieved our good market position honestly and fairly.

Martin Kretzer, Head of Operations at proroll, has just reported on the impressions of his recent trip to China and Hong Kong. Because proroll also regularly briefs and checks its foreign partners and suppliers.

Martin Kretzer: “We invest a lot in our relationships with our suppliers, whom we regard as our partners. It is important that we take the time to make our ideas of fair production clear.”

Because first of all a basic understanding for the concern of proroll must be created locally – for example in distant China – from which then an own realization can grow with the partner.

Personal visits offer many good opportunities for this. As soon as the prices have been successfully negotiated and production details have been agreed, the people of proroll always take a look at the working conditions of the employees on site. They ensure that all products that are to bear the proroll seal are produced fairly. These are important concerns that have been part of our corporate philosophy right from the start. proroll also stands by its social responsibility – and expects its suppliers to follow certain guidelines. This means that appropriate wages are paid, that employees have reasonable working hours and that the environment is also treated with fundamental consideration.

Of course, the high standards that apply in Germany or the EU, some of which were fought for decades, cannot be applied to the whole world without reflection. But a code of conduct of common, elementary values applies to all partners. Never before has proroll focused on the lowest prices “without consideration of losses”. Stefan Fornahl is certain that his customers understand these values and can endorse them themselves: “After all, the ethical standards we set for the production of our components are also a positive seal of quality for the furniture our customers build with them. These points belong to the requirements of proroll to its partners:

  • no child labor
  • healthy working environment
  • safe production environment
  • appropriate payment
  • fair working hours
  • Environmental considerations

At the partner Nan Jiin in Dongguan, an important industrial city in the Pearl River Delta in the Chinese Guangdong province, Martin Kretzer was welcomed with Asian joy and was a welcome guest.

Nan Jiin uses tools from proroll to manufacture various metal components, including numerous base crosses. The processing of aluminium parts has a long tradition in China and the level of craftsmanship is correspondingly high in the production of proroll products. Employees work in well-lit workshops, receive appropriate work clothes from the company and are paid fairly for their flexible working hours in three-shift operation.

If more and more Western clients pay attention to basic ethical rules, they can improve the living situation of workers abroad together.

We pay personal attention to compliance with our guidelines at our production sites

FOR A QUARTER CENTURY BY NOW we have been established in a highly competitive market. It makes us proud that we have attained our market position with honesty and fairness. We owe up to our ecological and social responsibility and expect from our suppliers that they as well adhere to certain guidelines. Among these are, for example, appropriate wages and reasonable working times. We visit our suppliers regularly and in the process not only take a look at the product quality but also the working conditions of employees.
